Navigating the mystical realms of Assassin's Creed Valhalla frequently brings players into contact with reality-bending illusions. The Mistress of the Iron Wood quest serves as your official introduction to the gorgeous yet perplexing region of Jotunheim. Successfully completing this early mission requires sharp observation skills and an understanding of how local Jotnar magic works.

Finding Angrboda in the Heart of the Wood

Your journey begins immediately after drinking Valka's second potent potion back in Ravensthorpe. Upon arriving in the snowy environment, players must travel forward roughly 400 meters toward a teal objective marker. However, approaching the designated zone will initially reveal nothing but an empty clearing where a home should logically stand.

To bypass the powerful Jotnar illusion concealing the structure, you need to locate a specific stone circle on the ground nearby. Look closely for a pair of wooden posts adorned with deer skulls situated right next to a small bench. Standing directly inside this stone circle and looking toward the large tree will cause the witch's house to materialize instantly.

Entering the Hidden Waterfall

After a brief conversation inside the newly revealed hut, Angrboda tasks Eivor with acquiring three rare roots. She explains that these items grow near a nearby waterfall, which is marked clearly on your map interface. Journeying to this location presents yet another magical puzzle, as the waterfall is entirely invisible at first glance.

To break this second illusion, climb up the steep rock formations located behind the prominent stone gateway. Walk directly through the archway and look down to see the water rushing below you. Jumping down into the pool safely allows you to enter the cavern system where the roots reside.

Gathering the Roots Inside the Cave

The interior of the cave features a massive central chamber dominated by a giant tree. To find the first root, follow the rocky pathway along the right side until you can safely step onto the thick branches. Move forward onto the tree and hop across to the left side to collect the item from the red moss.

The second root requires you to swim deeper through a submerged corridor connected to the main chamber. Follow the water path until you encounter another patch of vibrant red moss containing the next required ingredient. After grabbing it, continue swimming forward to return to the base of the massive central cave.

To secure the final root, climb up the rocky walls near the giant branch and enter the upper passageway. The last item is situated right inside this small alcove, meaning you now possess everything required by the witch. From here, follow the remaining upward path to discover an alternate exit leading back to the surface world.

Completing the Jotunheim Trial

With all three roots safely in your inventory, return to the stone circle to re-reveal Angrboda's hidden home. Entering the house triggers an intense narrative cutscene involving both the witch and a surprising appearance by Loki. Regardless of the dialogue options you choose during this interaction, Eivor will find themselves temporarily trapped by the duo.

This dramatic encounter officially concludes the quest line and sets up your next set of objectives in the region. Completing this trial opens up subsequent missions like The Lost Cauldron as you dig deeper into Norse mythology.
